Stitch Fix Review: First Fix of the New Year!

I took a break from StitchFix for a couple of months and boy, have I missed those monthly boxes! With the new year, I thought it was about time to feed my addiction start up my subscription again.

For those of you that don’t know, StitchFix is a subscription service that delivers 5 items (clothing, shoes  and/or accessories) to your doorstep. You try them on and decide which ones you want to keep. You get to choose how often you want to use the service. (I would get one delivered every week if I could. But I might have a problem.)

Here’s how it works:

  • Fill out your Style Profile so your stylist can get a sense of your style, size, shape, budget and lifestyle. You can also add in any links to Pinterest boards which is HUGE for me, as I pin everything.
  • Decide when you want your shipment to arrive. You get to choose how often you want to receive shipments (every 2-3 weeks, once a month, etc) and once your items have been chosen, you will be charged a $20 styling fee. That $20 will be applied as a credit toward anything you keep from your shipment.
  • Have a fashion show! I love this part! It’s like Christmas and birthday presents every time that box shows up. You can use the app to see what items are on their way to you, but I prefer to be surprised. I am consistently amazed at how well most things fit – especially jeans. I have the hardest time finding jeans IRL but StitchFix gets it right every time.
  • After you have decided what you are keeping, simply return the items you don’t want and leave your stylist feedback through your account. The $20 styling fee will be applied as credit towards any items you keep. You get a discount for keeping the whole box.

Let’s dig into this month’s box!

Liverpool Reagan Skinny Pant | 6 | $88 | RETURN

These pants were SOOOO comfortable. They were stretchy yet tight enough that they kept their shape and held me in. The color was great and I thought I could wear them for work, date nights as well as weekend errands. However, the waistband kept folding over and they were too long. I suppose I could have gotten them hemmed, but that waistband would have driven me nuts. So back they went!

Market & Spruce Brookline Mix Materials Sweater | M | $74 |RETURN

I really liked the color of this sweater and I thought the back zipper detail was fun. However, I have 2 similar color sweaters and I couldn’t justify a third. Plus, I wasn’t a big fan of the boxy shape of this sweater.

Market & Spruce Iverson Weave Stitched Poncho | M | $78 | RETURN

Hmmm, this poncho. What to say? Again, I was so excited to see a poncho in this month’s fix, but you know it’s a bad sign when you aren’t sure how to put on a poncho. How can you get confused putting on a poncho?? Well this one has sleeves…sort of. The print was cute and the material was soft yet heavy, but these sleeves.

I might have been able to live with it, but when I raised my arms, the entire poncho rode up.

Nope nope nope. This was a no-brainer. Definitely not keeping this.

Now for the accessories!

Octavia Alina Leopard Print Infinity Scarf | One Size | $34 |RETURN

I love scarves and I wear them a lot because I’m always cold. I loved the way this scarf felt and it was nice and long so that when I wrapped it, it wast choking me. But the print on this was just didn’t do it for me. I recently turned 40 and something about this struck me as old-lady/cougar. No fault of the stylist, just my own issues.

TOMS Seasonal Classic Slip-O Flats |10 | $48 | RETURN

I was so excited to see that this month’s Stitch Fix included a pair of TOMS. I have wanted a pair of TOMS for a long time because I love their message and how they give back. (With every pair of shoes you purchase, TOMS helps provide shoes, sight, water, safe birth and bullying prevention services to people in need.) These were comfy and the color was nice and neutral but I didn’t LOVE them. Still, I was tempted because of the price and the TOMS reputation. I am making an attempt to only buy things I absolutely love this year, so these went back. I have seen some cute TOMS wedges that I’d like to try so I’ll be making a note for my stylist.

I admit that I was disappointed that there was nothing I wanted to keep from this month’s fix. I started to wonder if maybe my love affair with Stitch Fix was over. Then I realized that I hadn’t updated my Stylist’s Note since my last box lo those many months ago. And I have a new stylist. That combo is probably the reason I didn’t fall head over heels for this box. Lucky for me, there’s another scheduled for next month!
