Monday Mantra 02.06.17

It’s not always easy, figuring out what you want to be when you grow up. The last few months of #funemployment have forced me to really think about the kind of work I want to do and the direction I want to go. I don’t have all the answers just yet, but I’m getting closer.

Monday Mantra – 01.02.17

Like a lot of women of my generation, Carrie Fisher was a hero of mine. I was heartbroken when she passed away last week.

Fearlessly authentic, Carrie Fisher didn’t sugarcoat anything – aging, sexism, electroshock therapy. You name it, Carrie addressed it head on. She owned her story – the good, the bad and the dysfunctionally ugly.

I am keeping this quote front and center for 2017. I’ll be rising to meet any challenge that presents itself, even the ones that scare the hell out of me.

Am I the only one that needed this reminder?

I’ve been walking around lately followed by my own personal grump cloud, due in part to being a bit under the weather. Doesn’t it always feel like everything falls to pieces when you get sick? Or maybe you get sick because things are falling to pieces? Either way, it’s easy to get buried under the “everything sucks right now” avalanche. But our reality is our perception and a shift in perception can change your reality. So I am shaking off my grump cloud and reminding myself that I am, in fact, a badass who creates my own blinding light. And so are you!

Happy Monday!

I love when the weather matches your mood. It makes me feel like the Universe is saying “I feel ya, girl!” It’s cold and gray and soggy in Los Angeles this morning and that’s exactly how I’m feeling. The only thing that got me out of bed this morning was the promise to myself that we’d get coffee after school drop-off.

On most days like this, I would try to push through it and try to pull it together. Not today. I am leaning into my feelings and letting it all fall apart today. If that means sitting on the couch in my sweats ugly-crying to The Notebook, so be it. It that means eating cheese puffs and diet Cherry Coke for lunch while I play video games, yup I’m doing that too. And if it means letting Ben stay a little later at after-school club so I can take a nap, so be it.

Maybe tomorrow I will put on my big girl panties and do the damn thing.

Maybe. But first, coffee.
